Understanding Tokenization Fields in the Equipment Section

When completing the Equipment section of your US or Canadian application, you’ll see several fields related to Elavon’s Tokenization Service. This article explains what each field means, when it appears, and how to complete it.

Updated this week

What Is Tokenization?

Tokenization replaces card numbers with secure digital tokens. It is the default security method for most merchants and may be required depending on the terminal you select.

Field: Tokenization

Options:

  • Tokenization Service (default)

  • No Tokenization

What to expect:

  • Choosing No Tokenization removes all Safe‑T security options.

  • Some terminals require tokenization. For those devices, Tokenization will remain set to Tokenization Service and cannot be changed.

---

Token Sharing Indicator

This field appears only when Tokenization Service is selected.

Purpose:

Indicates whether your business shares tokens across multiple locations or systems. Only use when there's an existing MID for this customer to sync to and do not use when it is the first Elavon MID.

Options:

  • No (default)

  • Yes

---

Registration ID (RID)

This field appears only when Token Sharing Indicator = Yes.

Purpose:

Identifies your business for token‑sharing setups.

What to enter:

A numeric Registration ID (up to 10 digits) provided by Elavon.

---

Tokenization Service Fee

This field appears when Tokenization Service is selected.

Purpose:

Represents the monthly fee for using Elavon’s Tokenization Service.

What to enter:

A dollar amount (can be $0; no negative values).

---

Tokenization Platform Fee

This field appears only when:

  • Tokenization Service is selected, and

  • Your Security Program is PCI Basic or PCI Plus

Purpose:

Represents the platform fee associated with PCI‑based security programs.

What to enter:

A dollar amount (can be $0; no negative values).

---

How Tokenization Affects Security Program Options

Your selections may change which security programs are available:

No Tokenization:

  • Only PCI security options will be shown.

Tokenization Service:

  • PCI and/or Safe‑T options may appear depending on the terminal.

Safe‑T‑required terminals:

  • Tokenization will be locked to Tokenization Service.
